Dr Mark Belsky spoke at The Hand Forum in New York City, October 24, 2013. He presented the newest technique in treating metacarpal neck and shaft fractures that commonly result from a punch injury to the hand. This technique has been developed and modified by the hand surgeons of Hand Surgery pc including Dr Belsky’s partners Dr David Ruchelsman and Dr Matthew Leibman. The newest method of using intramedullary fixation, a long headless screw down the shaft of the bone, allows the patient to begin early motion and a faster return to function. This is particularly indicated in professional and elite athletes who maintain conditioning through the care for their injury. Also this allows them to return to play weeks earlier than the standard methods of treatment
