We interact with the outside world for the most part with our hands. People depend on their hands for activities of daily living, such as eating, dressing, brushing your teeth, and personal hygiene. We use computers, telephones cameras, television remote controls, as well as drive, ride bicycles, and hold an umbrella with our hands.
We depend so much on our hands that when they do not function properly we can be greatly impaired. Often we never realize all that we need our hands to do until we can't! Some of the problems are due to injury, others are due to unexplained occurrences such as Dupuytren's Disease or carpal tunnel syndrome. Most of the conditions adults experience with their hands are treatable and function can be restored.
