Emergency Care
Our physicians normally see patients by appointment only. We make every effort to be punctual. The doctors make every effort to greet their patients on time. However, sometimes there are medical emergencies that require immediate medical attention. We recognize your time is valuable and invite you to call our office ahead to inquire if the doctors are running on schedule
Sometimes, however, we treat “emergency” injuries or spend extra time with patients who have developed unforeseen problems. When that happens, we work hard to keep from delaying your scheduled appointment. We assure you that upon meeting with the doctor you too will receive all the time you need to address your medical concern.
We are always available for emergency care. In case of an emergency, please call our office at 617-965-4263. If your call is during our regular office hours, our support staff will notify one of the doctors of your situation and you will be advised accordingly. If you should have an emergency outside of our regular office hours or on a weekend, we can be reached through our answering service by calling 617-965-4263
If you are already a patient and you have a problem related to recent treatment or surgery, use our normal office phone number. If the office is closed, you will be directed to the answering service that will take your message and have the covering physician paged.
Care After Hours
When the office is closed, the covering hand surgeon can be paged by calling the office at 617-965-4263.
Tell the answering service the patient's name and date of birth, the reason you are calling, and a number where you can be reached in the next 30-60 minutes. Try to keep the phone line open so the doctor can call you. If this is an emergency that cannot wait for the doctor to call back, please go to the emergency department of the closest hospital or call 911.
Medication
If you are having difficulty with the medication you have been prescribed, most times a change in the medication or stopping the medication will alleviate your problem. This is something the covering surgeon often can adjust. Please have the name, address, and telephone number of your pharmacy to help the doctor call in the change in your medication.
To assure quality of care, certain medications such as pain medications can not be renewed after hours when patient charts are not available. Please contact us during office hours Monday through Friday for renewal of pain medications.
